Usually the mother clears the calf's airways, but this time it had to be done with the help of zoo staff.
"We are very happy. However, it was a bit too exciting a start. The little calf needed help with breathing, but otherwise the birth went really well," says animal caretaker Frederik Søberg Hougaard in a press release.
This spring, a giraffe calf was born on March 13 and another on March 27.
"It has been an eventful spring. This time the oldest female in the herd gave birth to her calf," says Frederik Søberg Hougaard.
A giraffe is pregnant for about 15 months. A calf weighs 50–60 kilograms at birth and is barely two meters tall.
