Danish train operator DSB is investing 30 billion Danish kroner (equivalent to 43 billion Swedish kronor) in new driverless commuter trains and train maintenance. The suppliers chosen by DSB are Germany's Siemens and Switzerland's Stadler, according to a press release.

The fully automated train sets will be used as so-called S-trains for local and regional traffic in the Copenhagen area.

In total, this involves an order for at least 226 new train sets, with deliveries starting in 2032.

"An investment in the future of public transport in the capital," said DSB chairman Peter Schutze in a press release.

The ambition is to increase the number of departures and provide more frequent service with the fully automated solution.
