"I want to confirm to you that I will be a candidate in the election for FIFA president next year," Infantino said, according to several media outlets.
Infantino has already received express support from football federations in Africa, South America and Asia, which together have 111 of the 211 votes in the election.
He has led FIFA since being elected to a three-year term following the corruption scandals surrounding former president Sepp Blatter in 2016.
He may serve a maximum of three full four-year terms, i.e. until 2031 at the latest.
The 56-year-old has been criticized, especially in parts of Europe - including over FIFA's introduction of its own peace prize, which was awarded to US President Donald Trump.
