"I want to confirm that I will be a candidate in next year's election for FIFA president," Infantino said during the FIFA Congress in Vancouver, Canada, according to several media outlets.
Infantino has already received explicit support from football federations in Africa, South America and Asia, which together hold 111 of the 211 votes in the election.
When he took office in 2016, his annual salary was around 18 million kronor. Last year, he received 57 million including bonuses, according to the annual report, the Norwegian VG wrote.
He may serve a maximum of three full four-year terms, i.e. until 2031 at the latest.
The 56-year-old has been criticized, especially in parts of Europe - including over FIFA introducing its own peace prize, which was awarded to US President Donald Trump.
