For those who were hoping for a white Christmas across the country until the very end, it's time to think again. Even in the northern parts of the country, snow is not guaranteed.
On Christmas Eve and the night before Christmas Day, the temperature rises in Norrland, especially in Jämtland and Västernorrland, and can reach five degrees Celsius.
It is these strong, harsh westerly winds in Norrbotten that bring in mild air from the Atlantic. During Christmas Day it can be warmer in Jokkmokk than in Skåne, says Fredrik Cronvall.
It will be warmest around Sundsvall and Gävleborg, where it can be as much as ten degrees Celsius on Christmas Day.
The southern parts of the country, on the other hand, will experience chilly temperatures with lingering weather during the Christmas holidays. In some places, the sun will also shine.
A high pressure is moving in over Götaland with temperatures in the low 40s, maybe even near zero at most. So it's considerably milder up north.
But in parts of northwestern Norrbotten and western Jämtland, a yellow warning has been issued for rain and sudden ice slips from the afternoon of Christmas Eve.
SMHI has also issued an orange warning for strong winds in the Lapland mountains and heavy precipitation in western Norrbotten and Västerbotten.
"It's difficult up in the mountains with really unstable weather. Especially from tonight onwards, wind and large amounts of precipitation, both rain and snow, are expected," says Fredrik Cronvall.
SMHI advises against staying in the mountains as visibility is expected to be poor and it may be difficult to orient yourself. There is also a warning of occasional strong winds in the bare mountains in southern Västerbotten.
