Striker Lacombe played for nine years for Lyon in a career that spanned 18 years. He also belonged to S:t Etienne and Bordeaux, where he became French champion three times. With his 255 goals in 497 matches, he is the second best goal scorer of all time in the French league.

Lacombe returned after his playing career to Lyon, where he had various roles for several years, such as coach and sports director.

He played 38 international matches for France and scored twelve goals. In the World Championship in Argentina 1978, Lacombe scored a goal against Italy after just 30 seconds and became the fastest goal scorer in the national team.

He ended his time in the national team after the European Championship final against Spain 1984.
