France's reinstated Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu wants to pause the controversial pension reform that has been one of President Emmanuel Macron's most important issues.
Lecornu says in a speech in the French National Assembly that the introduction of the law will be postponed until after the next presidential election in 2027. The message is expected to be a way for the Prime Minister to avoid being dismissed by Parliament again.
The reform would raise the retirement age in France from 62 to 64 years.
The 39-year-old Lecornu, a loyal supporter of Macron, was appointed Prime Minister by the President on September 10. He resigned on October 6 after his newly formed government fell after just a few hours, but was reinstated on Friday, just four days later.
