Only just over 3 out of 10 Finns – 32 percent – trust that NATO's security guarantee is sufficient to deter an attack from one of the defense alliance's member states, shows a new survey from the market-liberal Finnish think tank EVA.
This is a decrease of 21 percentage points compared to the autumn of 2023, when the previous survey was conducted.
"Trust in NATO's security guarantees is no longer as obvious as it once was. The reason for this change is due to the election of Donald Trump as the President of the USA", writes EVA in a press release.
A majority of Finns, 66 percent, still consider themselves fundamentally positive towards membership, which, however, is a decrease of five percentage points.
