The extent of the damage from the attacks is not yet fully understood, but by around 2 a.m. local time at least seven people had been injured, reports Kyiv Independent.
One of the initial explosions in central Kyiv was described as powerful and set off alarms in parked cars, according to an AFP journalist on site in the city.
Among other things, fires have broken out in residential buildings and a supermarket in connection with the Russian attacks, according to Mayor Vitaliy Klytsko.
The Ukrainian Air Force issued several warnings on Telegram overnight that ballistic missiles were heading toward the capital.
