"Sweden is leading the way with its new social climate plan, which addresses transport vulnerability in rural areas. This is excellent news for people eager to switch to electric transport," writes Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra in a press release .
The plan includes support of up to SEK 1,300 per month for three years for households that buy or lease new or used electric cars.
The Commission's yes means that Sweden can apply for a first payment from the EU Social Climate Fund in the first half of 2026.
The fund has been created within the framework of the EU's "green deal" with the aim of helping households and areas that are at risk of higher expenses due to the climate transition.
