The online game Star Stable, targeted at children and young people, is now being criticized by the EU. After the game was reported by the Swedish Consumer Agency, the Consumer Agency announced that it will, together with its Norwegian counterpart, launch an "EU-coordinated supervisory effort against the company".
"This is fundamentally about putting a stop to companies that deceive children out of money", says Sinan Akdag, expert at the Swedish Consumer Agency in a press release.
The game, where the user takes care of horses and can chat with other players, has been questioned and a number of violations have been identified, including direct purchase invitations targeting children in the game, various forms of time-limited offers that pressure users into making purchases, as well as inadequate price information regarding the virtual currency used in the game.
"It's time to choose whether games should be disguised Jack Vegas machines or safe places where children can have fun and socialize with friends", says Sinan Akdag.
