The EU and the five Central Asian countries, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, have agreed on a historic cooperation agreement that involves billion investments from the EU's side.
This concerns investments in the transport sector, renewable energy, and digital connectivity, as well as the extraction of rare raw materials, according to a press release. The EU is investing 12 billion euros in this new strategic partnership, announces EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The commitment comes in connection with a summit in Uzbekistan's Samarkand, the first of its kind, between the EU and the leaders of the five countries. The meeting is also attended by European Council President António Costa.
