A possible solution to the conflict between Turkey's regime and the PKK guerrilla came when its imprisoned leader Abdullah Öcalan in February urged the movement to lay down its arms.
The initiative came with the demands that Turkey comply with a ceasefire and that Öcalan be released. He has been sitting in a Turkish prison since 1999.
The demands have been rejected by Turkey. Erdogan commented on the situation on Sunday, saying that the PKK must implement its unilateral ceasefire.
We expect the organization to dissolve without further delay and to completely lay down its arms, he said.
