Swedes' travel funds for their trips to London have gained purchasing power because of a weaker pound amid the political crisis that has shaken Britain in the wake of the Epstein revelations. But a new statement from Prime Minister Keir Starmer is dampening the pound's fall.

“Now we move forward with confidence,” says Keir Starmer.

He adds that he regrets the appointment of Peter Mandelson as British ambassador to the United States, which was made despite knowledge that Mandelson had contacts with the late American Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sex crimes against minors in 2008.

The pound has been below SEK 12.15 during the Epstein crisis. After the statement, the pound rose to SEK 12.26, while British long-term interest rates declined slightly.

At the turn of the year, the pound was at 12.40 kronor and a year ago the rate was just over 13.50 kronor.
