Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever calls for an emergency government meeting after repeated drone alarms. Traffic at Brussels Zaventem Airport remains partially at a standstill on Wednesday.

The meeting of the government's security council will be held on Thursday morning following a request from the country's interior minister. The security council includes the country's ministers of defense, interior, justice and foreign affairs.

Tuesday night's drone alert caused several airports in Belgium to close in several phases. Traffic will still be affected on Wednesday. Brussels' main airport, Zaventem, is warning of continued delays and cancellations of flights "for safety reasons" throughout the day.

“The safety of our passengers and employees is our top priority,” they state.

Also this weekend, there were reports of unidentified drones flying over Belgium, including near a military base where the US stores nuclear weapons. Defense Minister Theo Francken said at the time that the flights were likely an “espionage operation” with the aim of destabilizing.

Several drones were sighted in October over another military base in Belgium, near the German border.
