Eleven people, of which eight are civilians, have been killed in clashes between the Rwanda-backed rebel group M23 and Congolese militia in the eastern parts of Congo-Kinshasa, according to a local source for AFP.
A further 21 people are reported to have been injured.
As recently as last week, the parties signed a declaration of principle on a permanent ceasefire after three months of talks in Qatar's capital Doha. According to the declaration, they have agreed to initiate negotiations on a comprehensive peace agreement that is planned to be signed no later than August 18.
M23 captured large parts of the territory in eastern Congo-Kinshasa in a lightning offensive at the beginning of the year and controls, among other things, the regionally important cities of Goma and Bukavu.
