The Social Democrats' party leader abruptly called a press conference in the Riksdag on Monday morning.
On Sunday, Andersson received news from the Left Party that the Left intends to support the incumbent Speaker Andreas Norlén (M).
"This has created a new constellation in the Riksdag of left-wingers and Moderates. I naturally take the Left Party's statement seriously and, based on that and the conversations I have had, I can conclude that there is currently no possibility for me to form a government," says Magdalena Andersson.
At 11 a.m., the Riksdag will meet to elect a new Speaker.
Didn't want to see Norlén
S does not want Andreas Norlén to continue in office but believes that the post should go to S as the largest party and had hoped for support from the other red-green parties.
S will still nominate a person for speaker and deputy speaker, but it is unclear who.
Andersson has had the exploratory mission for just over a week and the government talks between the four red-green parties S, C, V and MP are described as having been slow.
V is upset about not being invited to the conversation between all four.
When the party now announces that it supports Andreas Norlén, it means that it has chosen to collaborate with the Moderates, according to Magdalena Andersson.
If V had not supported him, she would not have given up trying to form a government.
"Then I wouldn't have finished the assignment today," she says.
New should be allowed to probe
Andersson believes that a new person should be given the probe assignment.
Now we have a new constellation in the Swedish Riksdag and it is quite reasonable that one of the party leaders from that constellation will be given the probing assignment, she says.
