Several June records
According to the Spanish weather institute Aemet, a new heat record for June was set. The average temperature was 23.6 degrees – 0.8 degrees above the previous June record, which was set in 2017.
Portugal also set a heat record in June. According to the country's meteorological authority, the highest daytime temperature, 46.6 degrees, was recorded on Sunday in Mora, about ten miles east of Lisbon.
The previous record was 44.9 degrees and was measured in 2017 in Alcácer do Sal.
Also in the Netherlands, Belgium, and large parts of Central Europe, the mercury has soared upwards.
And in England, the warmest June month since official temperature measurements began in 1884 was recorded, according to the country's meteorological authority.
