The fall that brought down Jessie Diggins in the women's race also brought down Edvin Anger at the Olympics. Two broken poles on top of that - and his Olympic debut was ruined.

23-year-old Anger has been the best of the Swedes in the World Cup this year, but quickly had problems on the hill, which had already seen several falls during the women's race on Saturday.

"I almost fell right at the top too. Then it goes downhill a bit and I fell," says a soft-spoken Anger after the race.

One of his poles broke in the fall. He got a new one, but then disaster struck again.

"You try to ride anyway - but then I broke another pole on the second lap. Then it's over. You just have to forget about it," says Anger.

After the second pole broke, he had to make do with a freestyle pole, even though the race was still classic.

In the end, he finished 37th, just over three minutes from the podium.
