In an interview with Svenska Dagbladet, Minister of Education Simona Mohamsson says she wants cross-block conversations about regulations for screen time and social media.
At the same time, she is not prepared to compromise but wants to know if the opposition is "on board" with reforms such as screen-free preschool and mobile-free primary school.
The aim is to get clarity on what they think about the screen issue and screen politics. I don't think it's clear today, she tells SvD.
Not responsible
Mohamsson also mentions that the government is investigating a ban on social media for children under the age of 15. But the issue is not on her table, and a 15-year limit has not been established by the responsible minister, Jakob Forssmed (KD).
The invitation comes from the Ministry of Education via Minister of Education Simona Mohamsson. At the Government Offices it has been received with surprise, according to information provided to TT.
She can have different types of meetings in her area of preparation. I have no views on that. As far as I understand, the invitation has gone to education politicians in the Riksdag, says Minister of Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed.
The Social Democrats, the Left Party and the Center Party accept the meeting, with some hesitation.
It is an invitation that is difficult to take seriously, since she has difficulty establishing what the government's line is. But we will, of course, come and present our demands, says Anders Ygeman (S), education policy spokesperson.
The Social Democrats want to introduce a 15-year limit with a strict ID requirement.
“A little desperate”
At the same time, Ygeman thinks that everything feels a bit strange.
Unfortunately, most of what the Liberals are doing now is a bit desperate. And perhaps that's not so surprising when they are just under 2 percent in voter support.
Center Party spokesperson Niels Paarup-Petersen writes in a comment that a minister of education who wants to have conversations about children's mobile phone use, but not about curricula, is not serious.
"Instead, she wants to invite, for the first time, broad agreements on a matter that has nothing to do with her. It's frivolous."
MP has not yet responded to the invitation.
Jakob Forssmed thinks it is good that the Social Democrats have "woke up" when it comes to an age limit for social media, but does not believe in sitting down with the Social Democrats and the Swedish People's Party.
Corrected: In a previous version, there was misleading information about who invited the talks.
