"The Finnkamp, 100-year celebration and home turf. It's going to be very special! I've told Kajsa that she can count me in for the team", he says in a press release.
Duplantis has several times opted out of competing in the Finnkamp due to a packed competition schedule.
He will have an equally intense competition program next year as well. On August 16, he will compete in the Diamond League in Silesia, Poland. The Finnkamp will take place on August 23-24, and the Diamond League final will follow on August 27-28.
About two weeks later, it's time for the World Championship in Tokyo.
"It's going to be tight, but it has to work. I always want to participate in the Finnkamp, and this time it feels extra important", says Duplantis.
"The team is what matters"
In 2015, he became the youngest male participant in the Finnkamp's history and finished third with 5.17 meters.
Ten years later, he will compete at Stockholm Stadium as one of the world's best athletes and likely with an unbeaten world record (currently 6.26). But the feeling is the same as in 2015.
"For me, the Finnkamp is a people's festival and a very fun competition where the team is what matters. Usually, you compete alone, even when representing Sweden at championships. But this is something entirely different", says Duplantis.
Important that the best are participating
Federation captain Kajsa Bergqvist says in the press release that it's extremely important that Sweden's biggest stars are participating in the Finnkamp.
"Mondo and several of our top athletes will have a very tough schedule around the Finnkamp next year, and the World Championship in Japan is waiting around the corner, but I'm completely confident that everyone who can participate also wants to", she says.
Finland won this year's Finnkamp, both on the men's and women's sides.
