"The Swedish healthcare queues have become like a law of nature and we have only alleviated the symptoms. We need to understand our healthcare queues better. They have long been allowed to put patients' lives and health at risk," says Minister of Health Elisabet Lann (KD) at a press conference.
As part of the work to shorten the queues, the government has appointed Anders Sylvan, a doctor who has worked as a manager in the Västerbotten region and on Gotland, among other places, as national coordinator.
His assignment will be to analyze and follow up on work on the care queues, identify obstacles and propose measures that can quickly increase access, for example through procurement from private healthcare providers.
The assignment will be partially reported on June 12, 2026, and the final report will be submitted on January 4, 2027.
