As a ruler, ignoring research-based facts and dismissing scientific findings as "opinions" undermines the foundation of a democratic and sustainable society, it says in the debate article.
For example, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson's (M) comment on the Climate Policy Council's conclusions about the government's climate policy - "there are different opinions" - and his dismissal of well-merited researchers' knowledge as opinions are mentioned.
Furthermore, the criminal policy and the government's announced sentence increases are mentioned, which according to research are an ineffective method for long-term reduction of crime, as well as the necessity of nuclear power for a stable energy system.
"Our appeal to all politicians, regardless of political affiliation, is therefore: take research results seriously and let facts be the basis for the political decisions made", the article writers write.
Among those who have signed the debate article are Ulf Bjereld, professor of political science at the University of Gothenburg, Torbjörn Ebenhard, research leader in biological diversity at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Magnuz Engardt, associate professor of meteorology at SMHI, and Felipe Estrada, professor of criminology at Stockholm University.
