It's the same problem that forced him to withdraw from the Diamond League meet in London in July.
It's tight and I told myself not to jump if it felt tight during the warm-up. And it did, says the world record holder.
It's terrible. It's hard not to be able to compete. I don't like not feeling whole and healthy.
If the Diamond League meet had been the last of the season, Duplantis would have competed. But now the Ultimate Championship is coming up in Budapest in a week.
"I really want to compete in Budapest, but if I had jumped here, the chance of competing in Budapest would have been zero percent. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, I'm hopeful," he says about the chance of being ready to compete in a week.
Duplantis also felt the tightness in his thigh muscle in last week's Diamond League meet in Zurich, where Emmanouil Karalis pushed the Swedish-American to very high heights. Duplantis won with 6.25.
I didn't want to quit, but it didn't feel so good afterwards, says Duplantis.
With the withdrawal, he cannot win his sixth consecutive Diamond League title. The winner of the final meet will take home the title.
Instead, it was Karalis who took home the victory.
Daniel Ståhl and Fanny Roos both finished fifth in their respective disciplines of discus and shot put.
Ståhl had only two valid throws and his best was 67.92. Roos' best throw was 19.08.
The Diamond League final will be decided over two days. No Swedes will be competing on Saturday.
