DNA traces led authorities to suspect the person now in custody in the Rönninge murder, according to the Swedish Prosecution Authority. The authority also confirmed the man was caught red-handed while handling the body.

The DNA traces were found on objects at the location where the victim in Rönninge was suspected of having been abducted, the authority writes in a press release. A 26-year-old is suspected of murder and aggravated assault on a grave.

After the Christmas holidays, a 25-year-old woman who had previously been reported missing was found dead. Evidence supporting the suspicions of murder has been strengthened during the investigation.

"The suspect was arrested in connection with the handling of the body at a location in Nyköping municipality," the Prosecution Authority writes.

Not acquainted

According to the prosecutor, the woman was already dead when the police began their investigation on December 27 last year. The press release also confirms that the suspect and the woman were strangers to each other.

The prosecutor has requested more time before charges are brought - until February 24. The forensic psychiatric examination has been delayed and several investigative measures remain - including an autopsy report to determine how and when the 25-year-old woman died.

The suspect's movement patterns will also be mapped and the suspect's phones examined.

The suspect has provided information.

"Continued interrogations with the suspect will be held. The suspect has participated in the interrogations that have been held and has provided information about the incident," the Prosecution Authority writes.

The 26-year-old has admitted to trespassing but denies murder. He has previously been convicted of aggravated child pornography and attempted kidnapping.

The suspect now identifies as a woman but is still legally registered as male. The suspect has taken a female name, which is the same name as a woman who was previously murdered in Sweden.
