Marcus Gidlöf Shines in Debut as Djurgården Dominates AIK 5-0

Djurgården took a dominant 5–0 win against AIK in the fourth match of the Hockeyallsvenska final. Big match winner was Marcus Gidlöf who kept a clean sheet in his debut in the Djurgården jersey. Awesome, it's the icing on the cake, says the 19-year-old when Dif now has a firm grip on the SHL spot with a 3–1 lead in matches.

Before the final, Djurgården borrowed junior goalkeeper Marcus Gidlöf from Leksand.

In three matches, the 19-year-old got no playing time in the DIF jersey, but the evening before the fourth final match, he got the message that he would guard the net. Something that became a success – with 33 saved shots and a shutout directly.

Awesome, it was the icing on the cake. But the main thing is to win matches and the guys help me a lot, says Gidlöf.

Today's match was his first senior match – in 45 days.

Really fun, the guys help me a lot and I get a good match to work with.

"Cramp attack"

The match break may have played a little role in Gidlöf not guarding the net for the entire match, as he had to sit on the bench for a few minutes in the third period after becoming lying down.

It was a small cramp attack there, he says with a smile.

The referees said I needed to change because it wouldn't take too long. But I thought it felt good directly when I stood up, but I wasn't allowed to continue.

He would, however, come back – and when the final signal sounded, it stood 5–0 to Djurgården on the scoreboard.

Two of these goals were scored by Albin Grewe. The somewhat unusual goal scorer made it 2–0 in the first period through a slapshot that sailed in behind a screened Victor Brattström in the AIK goal, who would later be substituted.

He also set 3–0, a goal that meant his fifth in the playoffs – which is more than what he did during the entire regular season.

After the goal, he celebrated by kissing the club emblem in the direction of the AIK stand.

"Unnecessary done"

I didn't think so much. In hindsight, it was maybe a little unnecessary done, but I wanted to show my love for Djurgården, says Grewe.

There are a lot of emotions and thoughts spinning. You don't think so much.

Now Djurgården can secure SHL play, which the club has been chasing since the relegation in 2022, with a win on Friday in front of their home crowd.

It's going to be insanely cool and fun to get to go out in front of our fans. It's a good position to take it, then we need to make a better match than today. Because I think it's so-so, even though we win 5–0, says Grewe.

The 19-year-old goalkeeper would like to see his name as the starting goalkeeper again.

It would be insanely cool to get to play the decisive match, so I really want to stand, says Marcus Gidlöf.
