Karin Elmegard suffered life-threatening injuries when she fell from the Jetline on a summer day two and a half years ago. Her husband Mikael also fell, but managed to cling to one of the roller coaster's beams.
Today we feel pretty good. Karin has worked hard to be able to move and walk properly, but she is not at the finish line yet. We are happy that we can stand here today and feel as good as we do, says Mikael Elmegard.
Traumatic for the children
After reading the district court's verdict, the couple said they are satisfied that Gröna Lund and Göteborgs Mekaniska were convicted, but are disappointed.
We would have liked to see the district court demand damages for what has been done, because otherwise they can continue to do this, says Karin Elmegard.
Even the children didn't get any compensation, and it's clear that it has been incredibly traumatic for them. It's distressing that a company could do this.
The compensation paid largely covers costs related to the accident and medical care, but nothing more.
My wife has been through a lot, so it would have been good to get some compensation for that. But now we want to move on and this verdict gives us a chance to do so, says Mikael Elmegard.
Awaiting civil proceedings
The Elmegard couple have not yet decided whether they will pursue the claims for damages through civil law.
We haven't had time to think about that. We'll have to wait and talk to our plaintiff's attorney about it, says Mikael Elmegard.
Gröna Lund was sentenced by the district court to a corporate fine of 5.2 million kronor. Göteborgs Mekaniska was ordered to pay 1.3 million kronor. One person died in the accident and several people were injured.
