His lawyers claim that others who have committed similar crimes have been released on bail, and argue that he should not be imprisoned for his lifestyle as a ”swinger”, writes LA Times. The lawyers also mean that Combs is exposed to "ongoing threats" in the prison in Brooklyn, New York, where he has been sitting since he was arrested in September last year.
Combs has been convicted of two cases of transportation for the purpose of facilitating prostitution, after he hired male escorts for his girlfriends in so-called "freak-offs". He was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and extortion conspiracy.
Combs will receive his sentence on October 3. The prosecutors estimate the sentence to between just over four and five years, while the defense means that the sentence should be between 21 and 27 months.
In addition to the bail of almost half a billion, 480 million kronor, the lawyers also say that Combs is open to more conditions prior to a possible release – such as house arrest, psychiatric care and treatment for drug abuse.
