Total of 175 passengers and six crew members were on the plane that was to take them from Thailand's capital Bangkok to Muan in South Korea when it veered off the runway and crashed into a wall.
Almost all on board were South Korean citizens, including entire families who had spent their Christmas holiday in Thailand and were now on their way back to their home country.
The youngest was three years old and the oldest 78, according to South Korean authorities, AFP reports.
At Muan airport, authorities have set up a temporary morgue where relatives of the passengers can enter to identify the bodies, BBC reports.
At regular intervals, despairing cries can be heard from people whose relatives have been confirmed dead. One of the people on site, 65-year-old Jo, had her sister on board the plane after she had traveled to Bangkok on vacation with her friends.
My little sister went to heaven today, she says to AFP.
78-year-old Maeng Gi-su tells that his niece was on the plane along with her two sons.
I can't comprehend that the whole family just vanished. My heart aches so much, says Maeng Gi-su to BBC.
By 1 pm on Sunday, Swedish time, nearly 90 of the 179 deceased had been identified.
The only two who survived the crash were crew members. They were able to be rescued from the plane without serious injuries.
