Ultramarathon on Antarctica offered expected conditions: strong winds, poor visibility, and icy cold at minus 25 degrees.
Despite this, 15 runners participated in the competition, which could be run in three distances; 80, 100, and 161 kilometers.
Americans Roberto Sembiante and Paul Johnston won the 161-kilometer class in 23 hours, 22 minutes, and 57 seconds.
It was very fun, but I never want to do it again, says Sembiante to SVT Sport.
Johnston:
It was the worst evening of my life.
All competitors ran a safety lap around the camp, 4.2 kilometers, and had the opportunity to rest and refuel.
