New car registrations have now increased for three years in a row in Europe, although the level is around 15 percent below pre-pandemic levels.
Elon Musk's Tesla was the big loser, with new car registrations down 27 percent for the full year. Cheap electric cars, such as the Citroën ë-C3 and competing models from China's BYD, were among the winners.
Electric car registrations increased by a total of 30 percent last year, accounting for a fifth of Europe's new car market.
Plug-in hybrids, which can run on both electricity and fossil fuels, increased by 33 percent last year.
