29 protesters, four children and two members of Iran's security forces have been killed during the protests, US-based HRANA reported on Tuesday.
In just over a week, over 1,200 people have been arrested, according to the organization, whose information comes from an activist network inside Iran.
On Tuesday, human rights groups HRANA and Iran Human Rights reported that Iranian security forces fired tear gas at protesters chanting slogans against the regime in Tehran's Grand Bazaar.
"Incident" at hospital
On Monday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian instructed the country's Interior Ministry to investigate what happened in the province of Ilam, just over 500 kilometers from the capital Tehran, where protesters have been killed.
The presidency has confirmed that an "incident" occurred at a hospital in the city of Ilam, after videos circulated that purportedly showed Iranian security forces in riot gear storming the hospital and searching for protesters.
The storming has been criticized by the US State Department, which calls the incident "a crime against humanity."
Many provinces
The rising death toll comes with a potential for U.S. intervention. President Donald Trump warned on Friday that the United States could take action if Iran's regime "violently kills peaceful protesters." What such intervention would look like is unclear.
The protests, which are rooted in economic dissatisfaction, are the largest in Iran since 2022. According to HRANA, the expressions of dissatisfaction have spread to 27 of Iran's 31 provinces.
However, it is difficult to know exactly what is happening in the country, as state-run Iranian media report sparingly about the protests and journalists on the ground face severe restrictions.
