More and more journalists are being murdered. At least 53 of the 67 journalists killed fell victim to war or criminal networks, the organization's annual compilation shows.
43 percent of them were killed in Gaza by the Israeli military.
In Mexico, the crime cartels have made the year the deadliest in at least three years for the press corps, with nine journalists killed.
Domestic journalists are the most vulnerable, the survey shows. Of those killed, all but two were in their own home countries.
503 journalists are imprisoned around the world. China is the country that has imprisoned the most, 121. Russia is second, with 48, of which 26 are from Ukraine. In Myanmar, 47 journalists are imprisoned.
Since December 1 last year, 67 journalists have been killed because of their work. At least 79 percent were killed by the military, paramilitary groups or criminal networks.
The Israeli army killed more than 43 percent of them. Since the fall of 2023, Israel has killed nearly 220 journalists, at least 65 of them on duty or because of their work.
In Sudan, four journalists were killed while working. At least two of them died after being kidnapped by Rapid Support Forces.
China has 121 journalists in prison, eight of whom are in Hong Kong. Russia is the country that imprisons the most foreign journalists (26), followed by Israel (20).
135 journalists are now missing in 37 countries. Some have been missing for over 30 years.
20 journalists are being held hostage. The worst kidnappers are the Houthi rebels in Yemen, who kidnapped seven journalists in 2025.
