The knights at King Charles' round table are becoming increasingly numerous. Now, English football icon David Beckham can also join the crowd of those who get to call themselves "Sir".

Together with, among others, the actor Gary Oldman, the rock star Roger Daltrey and the singer Elaine Paige, Beckham was dubbed by King Charles during a ceremony at St James's Palace in London on Friday, reports BBC.

In total, 19 men and 21 women were knighted for their efforts in their respective areas and they can now call themselves "Sir" and "Dame" respectively.

Also, Swedish-born Hans Kristian Rausing and Lisbet Rausing can now call themselves "Sir" and "Dame". The siblings are grandchildren of the Tetra Pak founder Ruben Rausing. Large parts of the Rausing family, who are one of Sweden's richest, live in the United Kingdom.

Charles hands out the awards twice a year: in connection with the New Year and in connection with the celebration of his birthday which takes place during June.

In June, a total of 1,200 people were noted in the British Empire Order, which has five different degrees. 48% of these are women. The youngest to receive the award was 11 years old and the oldest 106.
