Swedish star did not need to stay particularly long at the National Arena in Tokyo during the night's qualifying round. He was the first out in his group - and threw 69.90 meters directly.
The reaction came immediately and spontaneously.
The 33-year-old cheered, raised his arms and then offered a dance for the audience.
Of course, you get incredibly happy when you throw almost 70 meters. You just have to offer it. You should have fun, it should be a show, he says.
"On the go"
Thus, he advanced to the final on Sunday.
There, the plan is to continue with the show - but Ståhl holds on to his view that he is still not a given medal candidate when it comes down to it.
I feel like I'm on the go, but I'm still an underdog. There are six guys who can throw over 69.50 meters... It's going to be hot in there.
Daniel Ståhl's last visit to the former Olympic Games arena in Tokyo ended with gold - and what was extra pleasing for the Swede - that his compatriot Simon Pettersson took silver.
This time there were spectators in place and he took the opportunity to enjoy it.
When I entered the arena, I tried to absorb as much energy as possible from all the spectators, because it was the opposite here four years ago, even though they had a good speaker and played good music, he says.
"A little touched"
Did you get Olympic Games vibes?
Yes, a little. On the verge of being a little touched. But at the same time, I got a kick. Damn, it's fun to be back here.
The throw that took Ståhl to the medal competition was his third longest this year - and exactly the kind of message the discus thrower wanted before the final on Sunday at 1 pm. A medal competition that he enters as the reigning World Champion, after the brilliant final throw in the final in Budapest 2023.
It was an explosive rhythmic throw with good timing, which I have been trying all summer. It came now, and it's absolutely wonderful, great.
It's also my longest qualifying throw in my career.
