Japan made a quick start against Tunisia. The clock had not reached three minutes when Daichi Kamada opened the scoring to make it 1–0. Japan never relinquished control and won 4–0.
After two straight losses and a painfully poor 1–9 goal difference, Tunisia is now the third team, after Haiti and Turkey, to be eliminated from the World Cup in the second round.
This makes things easy for Sweden; now they need to beat Japan to finish second in Group F and thus secure a place in the knockout stage. They could also advance as the third-placed team in the group, but that would require other results to go Sweden's way.
Sweden meets Japan at 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, local time in Sweden.
