The fires that broke out on Wednesday near the town of Ierapetra on Crete's south coast are still not extinguished.

We have 123 people at a hotel in the vicinity, of which 52 are Swedes, says Martina Krantz, press officer at Apollo.

Early on Wednesday evening, the local authorities released information that the hotel guests would gather at a designated place in the hotel, pending a possible evacuation.

The guests were there for a longer period but were able to return to their rooms at one o'clock at night, says Martina Krantz.

Ving has 29 Swedes in the area, spread across three different hotels.

They have not needed to move. But it cannot be ruled out that they may need to change hotels since the fire is not extinguished. We have alternative accommodation and transport for them, says Claes Pellvik, communications manager at Ving.

He emphasizes that Crete is a large island and that travelers in other places are not affected by the forest fires.

Crete is three times as large as Gotland. Travelers who are on the Chania coast on the other side of the island will not be affected by the fires in any way, says Claes Pellvik.

During the night, the extinguishing work has continued in Ierapetra.

The winds have been in the right direction during the night, which has helped a lot. Now we are waiting for an update on the situation, says Martina Krantz at Apollo.

Tui has no Swedish travelers residing in the area.
