The actor – best known for his role as the brutal media mogul Logan Roy – guested on a panel at the Edinburgh film festival where he spoke his mind.
What has happened is that TV does what film used to do, said Cox to the audience after a question about TV's originality.
I think that cinema is in a bad spot. I believe it has lost its position partly due to the massive input from Marvel, DC and all that. And I think it's starting to implode, actually. They're losing the concepts, said Cox.
The Scottish actor Cox was honest about having made superhero films himself, such as "X-Men 2" where Cox's character William Stryker "creates" Wolverine through a malicious experiment.
Cox describes this project, as well as the currently screened "Deadpool & Wolverine" as "party time" films that "make a lot of money and make everyone happy, but as work it becomes watered down".
