The courts want to be able to warn the Swedish Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo) about licensed healthcare personnel who are convicted of crimes. This is evident from a joint request to change the law that the Swedish courts and the Social Security Administration sent to the government, writes Corren.

The request comes after Corren's review, which found that courts did not alert the Swedish Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo) when doctors and nurses were convicted of substance abuse-related crimes.

In the proposal, the authorities want to introduce a system that automatically checks whether a person convicted of a crime is listed in the register of licensed healthcare professionals in order to inform Ivo.

A new paragraph will oblige the National Board of Health and Welfare to disclose information upon request from the courts.

The legislative amendment is proposed to enter into force on January 1, 2027.
