Last Thursday, a panel of three federal judges in the US Court of International Trade announced its decision to block Trump's import tariffs against many trading partners, including the EU.
The Trump administration appealed and barely a day after the panel's decision, a higher court ordered that the tariffs will continue to apply until the legal process has been settled in a higher instance.
Wednesday's message from the federal court means that the decision on the tariffs is extended. The court, which does not motivate why it has followed the government's line, has given the case high priority and has called for a hearing on July 31, where the parties will present their case.
Tariffs usually need to be approved by Congress, but Trump has claimed that he has the authority to act because the US trade deficit constitutes a national emergency.
