A controversial factory operation in Eskilstuna has been put on hold, reports SVT Nyheter Sörmland.

The company Senior Material has previously received an exemption from the Swedish Chemicals Agency to release up to 900 tons per year of the carcinogenic and nerve-damaging chemical methylene chloride in production at its factory in Svista in eastern Eskilstuna.

Now, the Land and Environmental Court of Appeal has said in a decision on inhibition that the factory may not start using methylene chloride until there is a final decision on the appealed exemption issue, according to SVT.

The factory planned to start production early next year. The consequences of the court's new decision are still unclear.

"We are currently conducting a full analysis together with our legal advisors to understand the practical consequences and what options are available going forward," writes Cecilia Vallin, communications manager at Senior Material, in an email to SVT.
