It was on Sunday morning that the Cofidis team noticed that there had been a break-in in their workshop truck, where they stored several bicycles.
A security guard was on site in the parking lot during the night, but the thieves were able to carry out the break-in anyway.
We have no leads unfortunately. We also found out that journalists who are staying at the same hotel were also robbed, so it was probably an organized gang that has been active for several days, says the team's general manager Cédric Vasseur to RMC Sport.
Vasseur explains that the bicycles had a value of 10,000–13,000 euros each, so around 110,000–145,000 kronor.
Despite the thefts, Cofidis cyclists were able to participate in Sunday's stage of the Tour de France, thanks to spare bicycles from the competition organizers.
Anyway, we will need to assemble new bicycles in the coming days because these were special Tour de France editions, says Vasseur.
L'Equipe writes that five of the stolen bicycles were later found in a forest area nearby.
Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel won the second stage on Sunday and tops the overall standings.
