"We have an ongoing operation southeast of Trelleborg," says Mattias Lindholm, press officer at the Coast Guard to TT, adding that the ship has been under surveillance "for some time."
Last week, the Coast Guard boarded another suspected vessel from the shadow fleet in a joint operation with other authorities.
"We are also collaborating this time with the police and the national task force," says Lindholm.
In the former case, a captain is suspected of several crimes. The Coast Guard does not want to comment on whether anyone is still suspected of a crime in the ongoing case, but a preliminary investigation into suspected violations of the Maritime Act regarding lack of seaworthiness has been initiated.
Now "black coffee is being poured out," writes the Minister of Civil Defense, Carl-Oskar Bohlin (M), on X, referring to the fact that the previous operation was called "black coffee."
"The ship is called Sea Owl 1 and is suspected of being stateless. She is on the EU sanctions list and is carrying oil or other liquid fuel," he writes.
The police confirm on their website that they participated in the operation against the ship "which is suspected of sailing under a false flag in Swedish territorial waters."
The ship flies the Comorian flag, of a country off the east coast of Africa, which in recent years has been used to register vessels transporting oil products between Russia and Brazil, according to the Coast Guard.
