The injuries were apparently much more serious than a few broken bones. He is doing well, but it will be a long way back, says Michelle Froome to The Times.
It was on August 28 that Froome crashed into a road sign when he was traveling at a speed of over 50 kilometers per hour during a training session in southern France.
He was taken to hospital by helicopter and it was found that he had suffered fractures in the vertebrae, a punctured lung and five broken ribs. This has been previously reported by his team, but now his wife states that during the operation it was discovered that Froome also had a life-threatening injury to the heart sac.
In addition to four overall victories in the Tour de France (2013, 2015–2017), the Briton has also won the Giro d’Italia (2018) and the Tour of Spain (2011, 2017).
