"A box of chocolate pralines can cost over 20 percent more than last Christmas," says Ulf Mazur, CEO of Matpriskollen, in a press release.
Christmas, one of the year's big food holidays, is approaching. Food Price Check has looked at where the regular prices are now for just over a hundred Christmas-related items and compared to last year. Overall, the price of a Christmas bag is increasing by 3 percent.
"What stands out the most are the 'luxury goods'. Coffee has skyrocketed by up to 24 percent and chocolate prices are skyrocketing," says Ulf Mazur.
Dairy products have also become more expensive, with butter, for example, almost 12 percent more expensive than last year. And products such as cream and Edam cheese are also showing double-digit price increases.
The price of Christmas ham has increased by an average of 3 percent this year, but there are variations between different brands. On the other hand, potatoes, for example, have become considerably cheaper. The price has dropped by just over 17 percent compared to last year.
“Even salmon, both pickled and cold-smoked, is cheaper this year,” says Ulf Mazur.
Since Christmas 2021, food prices have increased by an average of around 30 percent, according to statistics from Matpriskollen.
Ulf Mazur advises taking the opportunity to do your grocery shopping in the weeks before Christmas. This is when there can often be good extra prices on coffee, ham, herring and eggs, among other things.
