China's export increased by 12.4 percent in March compared to the same month last year, the country's customs authority announced on Monday.
The increase was significantly larger compared to the average 4.6 percent that analysts had counted on beforehand. Meanwhile, imports decreased by 4.3 percent during the same period, which was worse than the forecast of 2.1 percent.
The figures mean that China's trade surplus for March landed at over 100 billion dollars.
How exports will develop in the future is unclear due to the trade war between Washington and Beijing. The conflict is likely to start showing in the statistics from this month onwards and currently, it does not seem like the two countries are willing to try to reach an agreement.
