A total of 961,382 new cars were registered during the month. This is the second consecutive year that the year has begun with a decline in new registrations.
Among individual car brands, Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD stood out, with new registrations in the EU up 175 percent compared to last year. BYD thus accounted for 1.7 percent of new registrations. Volvo Cars fell 13 percent and thus accounted for 2 percent.
The share of newly registered electric cars in January was 19.3 percent, compared to 14.9 percent in the same month last year. Hybrid cars, including plug-in hybrids, accounted for 48.8 percent of newly registered cars.
