"The shocking violence that demonstrators, opposition leaders, and journalists have been subjected to is a flagrant attack on democracy, and the Georgian people's right to exercise their fundamental freedoms", says British Foreign Minister David Lammy.
The decision has been coordinated with the USA, according to the UK.
Thousands of people have protested in extensive demonstrations in the country, since Prime Minister Irakli Kobachidze announced that all talks about EU membership would be frozen for four years. Hundreds of people have been arrested and many have been injured, including police officers.
The activists have also demanded that the autumn elections be re-held. Georgia went to the polls on October 26, but the result has not been recognized by the EU Parliament or the opposition, which claims electoral fraud. According to the official result, the Georgian Dream party, which Kobachidze belongs to, received 89 of the parliament's 150 seats.
