Brad Pitt Drives Real F1 Cars in New Film Co-Produced by Lewis Hamilton

Everything on film is fake, it's said. But not in the new film "F1", with Hollywood star Brad Pitt in the lead role and the eight-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton as co-producer. You couldn't have recreated what we've done without doing it for real, says director Joseph Kosinski.

Formula 1 is one of the world's most dangerous sports, where drivers can reach speeds of up to 340 kilometers per hour, and where a mistake can have fatal consequences. Therefore, it is extremely few who get the chance to compete in the epicenter of car racing.

One of those who have now got the chance is Hollywood star Brad Pitt.

On June 25, the film "F1" – where he plays the lead role – will be premiered in Sweden, and all racing scenes are recorded during real competition weekends, in real cars.

It was really two worlds that met and merged. You couldn't have recreated what we've done without doing it for real, and the film would never have been made if it weren't for our collaboration with Formula 1, says "Top Gun: Maverick" director Joseph Kosinski.

Fictional team "competed" in the middle of the season

During selected Grand Prix, a film team recreated a fictional team, as if they were part of the real competition, with their own garage and own cars driven in front of the audience on site, and where Pitt got to participate in driver meetings and other technical meetings.

And right in the middle of it all stands the sport's superstar, Lewis Hamilton. The Ferrari driver is namely co-producer of the film, and has been a major factor in making the film so realistic.

He smiled and just said: "It looks fast". Then I just felt thank God! If Lewis says something like that, we're on the right track, continues director Joseph Kosinski.

Three months of training

But anyone can't just sit in an F1 car and maneuver it without problems. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer tells that Brad Pitt was forced to train for three months before the cameras could start rolling.

The best day during filming was when they said "Okay, that's it with the actual driving". Then I could finally breathe out, because it's really dangerous for real, he concludes.

The film cost nearly equivalent to 3 billion kronor to make.
