"Jamaica Kincaid's books are thin, but they make the world expand. In novels and essays, she shines a sobering light on our colonial history and our family relationships, as well as on the flowers in our gardens," the jury writes.
Jamaica Kincaid, born on the Caribbean island of Antigua and living in the United States, is known for works such as "Annie John", "Lucy" and "My Mother's Autobiography".
“I am very honored and touched by this award,” she says in a press release.
Kincaid will receive the award, which is being presented for the third time, at the fair September 24–27 and will participate in an in-depth conversation about her writing.
