Speculation in cryptocurrency has gained momentum since Trump signaled that he wants to see softer regulation of the sector than the current Biden administration. He has also flagged that the US would invest in a strategic reserve of cryptocurrencies and that he wants to create conditions for making the US the global base for the crypto industry.

Trump's enthusiasm for cryptocurrencies stands in sharp contrast to both his own previous view of them and the tough stance that the US Financial Supervisory Authority SEC has had towards the industry during President Joe Biden's term.

In total, speculation in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies has now attracted around 3,100 billion dollars, according to Coin Gecko, a leading provider of crypto data.
